I have a love for colour, contrast and texture, and generating these elements using various mediums on canvas, brings me a further component - a smile !
I am now retired and have found time to create my own original and unique pieces of art . I have happily re-discovered the pleasure of dipping a brush or palette knife into acrylic paint in an assortment of wonderful colours, and adding them to a canvas.
Art has been part of my own biography since my first 'Art Appreciation' lesson at the tender age of 8 years old! .. who was this Monet person? How did he put these wonderful colours onto canvas, how did I, at that age , understand the concept of 'impressionism'? How wonderful it was to then be given pots of poster paints and a huge piece of paper, and asked to paint a picture of ..... a bowl of fruit ? Unfortunately my painting was deemed too 'impressionistic' and much too abstract, and though the colours were great it was not at all reminiscent of a bowl of fruit !
Moving on to senior school , the joy of a real art studio, full of different artistic mediums to choose from .... and the praise bestowed on me for my rather abstract and oversized impression of a pansy painted on black cardboard, (which incidentally was entered for my 'O' level art exam, and helped me to gain a good pass - along with the pen and ink drawing of a rosehip berry and pencil drawing of the ubiquitous onion, which appeared to be a rite of passage item to draw!)
I dabbled here and there over the next years as my time was happily filled with my children and work. Every now and then I would buy a few canvases, put a mish mash of colours and shapes together on them and hang them on the living room walls, a recurring theme was often the seasons: Spring in tones of bright greens , Summer in yellows, Autumn in browns and Winter in blues.
I now enjoy my creative and rather abstract side, helped along by the gift of an easel which is under the window in the back bedroom ! a huge old sheet underneath and a multitude of brushes, palette knives (the odd fork and old toothbrush!) paints, cloths, old jam jars, and all the usual accoutrements required to create.
